Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, announced that a Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies will be set up at the Nalanda University soon. He was addressing the Member States of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) at Katmandu, on 31 st August 2018. The Prime Minister went on to say that the Government of India would also cover 30 scholarships to Member States (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand) to conduct research on Bay of Bengal region at Nalanda University. This initiative was announced based on the concept note submitted by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sunaina Singh to Ministry of External Affairs, GOI. The Centre is aimed to offer a cutting-edge research in the areas of cross cultural & civilizational interlinkages, mythic traditions, maritime & culture, meteorology & environment, and Indian diaspora studies in the regions of Bay of Bengal.
